The Astral Mists is a Light Crossbow that has since made it into the
Realms form the Astral Plane.

        Appearance:  This Item appears as a normal light Crossbow, but made
entirely of some bright, silvery substance, and a small telescope like
sight on the stock.  It also weighs a number of pounds equal to 20-the Int
score of the wielder.

        Powers: The Astral Mists functions as a Crossbow of Distance +4 (+3 on the
Prime Mat).  When looking through the sight, it is possible to see through
any non-solid obscurement, as if it when bright daylight.  This includes:
Fog, Rain, Magical darkness and fog, but not things like stone walls and
such.  It will also do double damage to any Githzeri/Illithid it hits.  Do
to its unique construction on the Plane of the Mind, the Astral, only
characters with an Intelligence of 14 or higher can use this weapon.
Others find the bolts simply fade to nothingness a few yards after being
fired.

        History:  Forged on the Astral, upon the dead carcass of a God, this
crossbow has been used for millennia, yet, since no time passes on the
Astral, any attempt at Legend Lore, will reveal it as only being 20 years
old, win it arrived in Faerun.  When a group of Illithid Hunting Githyanki
(Rakemma) came to the lair of the Old Red Dragon known as "Forgeblast",
within the Nether Mts, and demanded it uphold their ancient agreement of
aid between the two races.  You can imagine their surprise to be blasted by
a blast lightning from the wyrm.  After the corpses stopped jerking, the
Ancient Blue called Silinkthanisslan, dropped the illusion, added what
treasure they possessed to the rest of what he had taken when he killed the
red wyrm, and returned to his lair in Anauroch.  The Blue was later slain
by a bunch of Zhents when they got tired of him blasting every one of their
caravans into little pieces.  The Crossbow was claimed by the war party's
leader Gregory, the Unholy (HM CE, F-12).  For the betterment of Faerun, it
is believed he died in the destruction of Zhentil Keep.  The Astral Mists
is believed to still lair in the ruins, or made its way into the underdark.

        While the Githyanki will not actively search for the owner of the weapon,
the would go out of their way to insure his/her short life expectancy.
