Glittering's Wizard Swatter
Why Gnomes are the most dangerous things on Faerun!

History: The Gnome Illusionist Glittering Garnet (Gn-F CG Ill-18), has
long been one of a myriad of pains that grate at the Knights of the Shield.
A care-free, mischievous gnome, who belies her 200+ years, has long
enjoyed tormenting the pompous mages-for-hire of the Knights of the Shield.
From her home base, an underground, inverted tower from some where in the
Forest of Tethyr, she has helped a myriad of adventurers. Her greatest
triumph has been her development of an item she has dubbed the Wizard
Swatter, for it's ability to send a constant barrage of Magic Missiles to
slaughter mages and non-mages alike. One Lantanese mage dubbed it a
"Gattling Smoke Gun". She has made about 6 of these devices, 3 of which
she owns herself.

Appearance: This ingenious device, which, when not being used, appears as
a rectangular, leather breastplate. When it is being used, it appears to
swing down from the character's waist, and a small crank shoots out from
the left side. A small, metal bar is located at the top and bottom of each
side. I've tried a crude diagram below.

Powers: When not being used, it appears as a Leather Breastplate +1. It
provides a +1 bonus to Armor Class, and can be worn by wizards. Although
anyone can benefit from the A.C. bonus, only a mage can use its real power.

When it folds out however, that is when it's true power is revealed. It
functions similar to a rapid-fire set of scrolls. When the crank is
turned, the leather skin begins to travel around the two drums. This
causes a barrage of magic missiles to be fired. Specifically, for each
segment of a combat round that the crank is turned, one Magic Missile is
fired, up to ten. For example, if a mage rolls a 5 for iniative and begins
to crank, one Magic Missile is fired on 6, one at 7, 8, 9, etc, until 10
have been fired, or the mage stops cranking.

However, once a missile has been fired, its energy has escaped from the
device, and it must be recharged (e.g. after every ten shots, somebody
needs to recharge it). This can easily be done. Anyone can find the
key-screw that allows the device to be taken apart. Upon the back-side of
the leather parchment, 10 divisions (in Ruathek script), can be seen. In
addition, for each charge remaining, one of those divisions will be filled
with magical writings. To recharge this item, a mage must be of a level
capable of creating scrolls and capable of casting Magic Missile. He/she,
simply scribes (as per a scroll) a Magic Missile spell onto each of the
blank divisions. It requires 1 day to scribe each partition, and requires
the use of an expensive ink 50gp per blank. Afterwards, its ready to go.
