Ravencorps 4 - Ogresbane
History: William helped his older brother, Samuel, strap on their
father's old plate mail. The orcs were attacking, and their father fallen
in battle, Samuel was now Lord Knight of Ogresbane Keep. As Samuel double
checked the straps on his armor, William ran to get their father's shield,
and the Family's Legacy, Ogresbane, made from the bones of the beast it had
been enchanted to slay. Samuel met his brother at the door, placed the
mighty Bastard Sword in a sheath at his side, went down to the keep's
stables, and mounted Nighthawk, his own Warhorse. As he left, he looked
over his should and told his family not to fear, he would return
victorious, riding home with the head of a Ogre on his lance.

He was one of the ones to die in the initial rain of arrows and pitch from
the humanoid armies. When the battles were finally over, this stretch of
land came to be called the Battle of Bones.

Years later, a Kobold, digging through the piles of skeletons and debris,
came across a skeleton in rusted plate, the remains of a shield, many
arrowheads (some of which seem to still hold some sort of enchantment), the
ruined remains of a finely crafted scabbard, and a rustless blade.
Immediately Kobold #6, grabbed the sword and began to drag it back to the
base camp, sure Yego would reward him for his find. Yego, humpphed, looked
at the blade, tossed the creature some rancid meat, and placed the sword
with the rest of the cargo bound for Q'sthiliisis's Trading Coaster in
Skullport.

Appearance: This bastard sword is crafted from a high quality steel. Its
guard is made from the jawbones of 2 ogres. they are cut, with teeth
facing towards the blade, one left and one right on each side, so an "x" is
formed when sighting down the blade. The large grip is carved from the
radial arm bone of an ogre.

Powers: Ogresbane is a Bastard Sword +1/+2 vs Ogres. Since its long rest
within the Fields of the Dead, it also now +2 vs Undead.

The Secret stuff:

Q'sthiliisis's Trading Coaster's Mining and exploratory commission. This
organization's purpose is (according to Q'sthiliisis), to explore the
Fields of the Dead for Magic items that can be sold on the market of
Skullport for a profit. The Mining commission is led by the Osyluth,
Bonedeath, disguised as the Ogre, Yego, and he maintains control of several
hundred Kobold slave workers, several dozen Manes as guards, and a High
Priest of Velsharoon and his Acolytes to keep the undead at bay. The
Mining Commission tends to send one small Caravan a month to Skullport,
loaded with minor magical weapons and rings, magic bolts of some kind, some
armor, and the occasional unique find. (Unique items are never on display
at the Coaster, and any interested buyer must show his cash or treasure up
front before being able to see it.

They use the kobolds, their small size making them adept at tunnel
running, and each have a headband that allows magic items to glow with
their infravision. (They can also be set to explode, causing 3d10 damage).

Real Reason. Q'sthiliisis (Ravencorps's) partner, the Yochlol Slytntisis
(who appears as her Drow Sister), is blackmailing Bonedeath into searching
for a particular item that she believes will help defend herself if she is
unable to get back in Lloth's good graces. She used a Scroll of Cause
Planer Disease on Bonedeath, one that causes his blood to slowly turn to
Holy Water. This causes him unbearable agony, and the only thing that
keeps it at bay is a weird elixir that Slytntisis brews and Teleport
Object's to him to insure his loyalty. Slytntisis is looking for a Elven
Blade that was worn by one of the soldiers to fall during the Battle. If
Ravencorps discovers her treachery, she will not let on she knows, but will
begin to plot her revenge.
