History: Within a small woods nearby the city of Silverymoon, there stands
a blunt, squat, stone tower, upon a hill in a clearing that was recently
the site of a mass wizard battle. Several Zhent magelings, under orders
from Semmenon from Darkhold, assaulted the tower. Semmenon ordered this
attack for two reasons: 1-He noticed some magelings with an excess of
pomposity, and a lack of subtlety. 2-The Clockwork Towers inhabitant
89764530-432 (LN Rogue Modron M(Geomancer)-20), had come to the conclusion
that the Black Network had violated sub-clause 8, paragraph 452, of section
1,934... of his agreement to share spellcasting knowledge. After a mighty
battle, the Artificer was beaten, but after killing no less than 8 Zhent
Wizards.
After the carnage, nearly a hundred Zhent slaves and soldiers died
plundering the tower, as traps and clockwork gears killed many. Fifty died
within the Clockwork Mage's main tower when the wall of force that made up
all the floor, except for his throne was accidentally turned off, dropping
everyone in the room to their deaths in the molten magma(which "Clockwork"
used for his Mechanical Creation) 40 feet below.
Of the plundered treasure, only a few items have been seen, or journeyed
beyond the walls of Darkhold. Two of the items include the Modron's
Whistle and Clangeddin's SilveryBeard.
Modron's Whistle: This item appears as a bright, shiny, brass whistle,
composed entirely of small, whirling gears. It radiates Conj/Summ magic
under Detect Magic.
Powers: When blown, this whistle summons 3d6 Monodrone Modrons (see
Planescape Box Set or Planes of Law). These Monodrone regard the bearer of
the whistle as a Duadrone Modron (meaning they acknowledge his presence and
follow his orders). These Drones stay for 1day\level of the whistle
blower(unless killed), returning to Mechanus after the duration. The
Whistle may function 1/Tenday.
Clangeddin's SilveryBeard: Actually a fairly common item among High
Priests of Clangeddin, these small beard-rings have only come to light
after several Zhent magelings were hacked to bits for wearing them.
Appearance: These items appear a single 1-inch wide band of silver, inset
with a series of large, pale opals around the center. When tied into one's
beard the wearer's beard becomes as hard as metal, and takes on a silvery
hue. If worn for more than a month, the owner's beard becomes permanently
silver-hued.
Powers: This is merely a permanent effect of the 1st level Dwarven Spell
Silverbeard (see DD). It provides the wearer with an A.C. of 8 without
armor, or a +1 A.C. bonus with armor. These are considered holy items of
the church of Clangeddin.
Campaign ideas: First, after processing all the cloning re-animations,
re-naturalization, and exit paperwork, 89764530-432's clone has made it
back to his tower, and is rather upset. He has gone to Silverymoon,
looking to hire adventurers to reclaim his lost items. He is offering
100g.p. per party member, plus a 1,000 G.P. bonus for each item returned
(he also throw in a couple of Monodrones if asked). All you have to do is
sign the contract, in triplicate, with verified witnesses, etc, etc, etc...
He is most interested in the return of his spellbooks and alchemical notes.
Clangeddin's Silverybeard: First, the Dwarves of the North wish to know
where "Clockwork" got all these items. Second, though most have fallen
back into the hands of dwarves, some have not. Of most significant
interest Granle (CE H M-5) has been given one of these and sent on a
personal mission to scout the defenses of the recently re-claimed Citadel
Felbarr. Semmenon never liked Granle very much. Plus, any non-dwarf, or
non-dwarf-friend, had better have a good reason for openly wearing of these
items, usually reserved for high priests and heroes of Clangeddin.
