History:  Within Tethyr's Purple Hills several generations ago a small
village of Halflings was slowly being destroyed.  Every night, a massive
horde of Fruit Bats would descend on their vineyards and slowly destroy
their crops.  When the local priestess of Yondalla's Divinations pointed
out the bats were being led by a Werebat, (Lazy Tongue), who was once a
halfling chased out of the village long ago for burning crops.  Despairing,
the word went out for help, and a high cleric of Avoreen came to the
summons.  She, Astweet, (LG, hlingf F12/P12), enchanted a javelin, and gave
it the best warrior in the community, Windley (N, hlingm F-7), and told him
to use it the next night.  That night, as the horde of bats fell upon the
vineyards, Windly was able to perceive through the darkness a bat much
smaller than the large fruit bats.  He threw the javelin, piercing the
bat's heart, killing it instantly.  Before it hit the ground it had assumed
the form of a halfling.

It still remains it that village to this day, despite the encroaching
Systhillian Empire.

Appearance:  this appears as a normal Javelin, made of Cherry Wood, with
an excellent, steel head.  It smells faintly of Grapes.

Powers:  Javelin +1/+2 vs Bats.  It radiates an area of silence around
itself, so that it is immune to echo-location senses.  It grants its
wielder Night Vision and the Appraising Proficiency (wine).

In the Hands of a Halfling, the Javelin is +2/+4 vs Bats.
