History: After frolicking for many years throughout the High Forest,
Aswrian the Leprechaun found a tunnel leading down into the earth one day
after a particularly violent storm. The Tunnel led down into the depths of
the Underdark. While exploring this new found realm, he came upon a
curious site, a lone female elf, wondering the tunnels. Due to the
darkness, and not knowing what a Drow was, he decided to play a good
natured prank on the elf. Watching her, he saw she had a curious whip she
seemed very fond of, constantly stopping to caress it, as if she was
petting it. Without further thought Aswrian, using his invisibility, he
ran by and grabbed the whip, which immediately turned on him and began to
attack him with its many snake heads. As the venom coursed through his
diminutive body, Aswrian keeled over in pain, and turned visible. Before
he lost consciousness from the pain, he heard the woman begin to chant in a
strange, yet ominous, language that he did not understand.
When he came to, which surprised him, he felt horrible pain wracking his
lower body. As he lifted himself to his feet, he felt strange, and almost
toppled over. In a poison induced daze, he wondered back up to the
surface, trying to remember the way back to the Hidden Grove of a local
Druid, Evaline (N Hf Dr-8), he often stayed at. However, he collapsed in
an unknown part of the forest.
Several days later, he came to. He was in a part of the forest he had
never been to before, yet he still felt he had been somewhere near here
before. As he began to wonder to the South, which he felt should take him
in the direction of the Grove, Aswrian nearly plummeted off the edge of a
high cliff. Barely stopping in time, he jumped straight back, startled at
the abruptness of the cliff. With a sudden realization, he KNEW this
cliff, it was on the way to Evaline's Grove! As he pondered how he got to
this height, he began to scratch his back, and felt some sort of furry
beast behind him. he immediately spun around on his eight legs to see what
was behind him, and he stopped. Collapsed. And began to cry.
Sometime later, after he had recovered, he took stock of his situation.
He found his body, at least the lower half, had taken on the form of some,
white, hairy, spider, complete with spinnerets. His upper half seemed
unaffected. Being somewhat practical, he began to experiment with his new
form, to see what he retained of his Leprechaun side. To his great relief,
he found most of his Fey abilities remained in tact. In fact, it seemed
his abilities had improved, for he could now climb up straight surfaces
like a spider, as well as, with effort, spin silk (though it took him some
time to get it right). He decided this form might not be so bad after all,
and traveled down the cliff to show Evaline his new form. Part way there,
he felt convulsions start to wrack his lower body and he collapsed into
pain, unable to even move.
Eventually the spasms passed and he finished his journey to Evaline's
grove. Alarmed at her friend's new appearance, yet able to control
herself, she sought to undue the curse the Drow Priestess wove upon him.
Alas she failed, even the High Druid of the Forest was unable to reverse
the curse. Thus began Aswrain's quest to transform himself into what he
once was.
But, that is a tale best told at some other time.
WHERE FOUND: Currently Aswrian lairs within an ice cave within the Spine
of the World Mountains. The cave is usually used by various cold dwelling
creatures (usually Ice Trolls), unless recently driven out by adventurers
or Aswrian's Illusions. The entrance to the cave is surrounded by a myriad
of ice crystals that have the effect of a Hypnotic Pattern (as per the
spell) to any who view it. Also, a series of ice sheets have been buffed
by Aswrian to a mirror perfect finish, so that he may appear to be any size
when talking to intruders. He will be friendly to those who have come to
seek, or give, advice on the subjects he knows so well.
HOW FOUND: In order to find his location, one most talk to the Druids of
the High Forest (who will direct them to Evaline), A few select sages of
Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Silverymoon, and Sundabar, The Monks of Candlekeep
(Aswrian has penned many of their volumes), Grewykluwosdzaquel, a Deep
Dragon that lairs beneath the Serpent Hills, or the City of Brass, Domain
of the Efreeti, on the Elemental Plane of Fire. Plus, some Clerics and
Priests of Sheverash have been to see him. Those persons can give
directions to Aswrian's home in exile.
ROLE PLAYING: Aswrain is a almost schizophrenic, he has two vastly
different personas. One is that of a free loving, practical joking Fey
Creature, the other, a depressed, forlorn, bitter creature seeking revenge
against all who have harmed him. Any speaking with him for any length of
time will side both side of his persona, particularly when speaking of the
Drow. His hatred of these creatures is obvious. Plus, he has become
addicted to the painkiller pipeweed (see below), he uses when the pain
spasms begin. (he has a 5% chance, culmative, per hour of being racked by
these immobilizing pains that last for 1d4 turns).
COST: All he will charge is some Gold (he still has the soul of a
Leprechaun), and some decent conversation, plus news of the world outside.
SAGE ABILITIES: Drow, Magic, Curses, Druids, Underdark, Efreeti,
Herbalism, Spiders, 66th Level of the Abyss, Religion-Drow, Fairie kind and
Kin, Far North. Also he make several different magical pipeweeds from the
rare lichens and mosses that grow in his ice caves.
MAGICAL PIPEWEEDS: Unless otherwise noted, it takes 1d10 rounds for the
pipeweed to take effect.
Healing - When smoked this gray-green smoke can be inhaled to heal 1d8
H.P. per dose smoked.
Painkiller - This pink, glowing substance can negate the pain of all
wounds for 1d6 hours, but each time one is smoked a save vs. poison must be
made, or the character will become addicted.
Reduction - This Blue smoke functions as a Reduce spell cast at the 10th
level of ability.
Smoke - The round after this gray weed is smoked a gray cloud will envelope
the creature, in all ways acting as the clerical spell Obscurement.
Illusion - This purple smoke may, at the wielder's command take the shape
of various creatures, acting as the Demi-Shadow Monster Spell, cast at the
6th level of ability.
Fire - This bright Yellow-Orange smoke may be blown out of the imbiber's
mouth in a narrowing ring, when the ring collapses in upon itself, opening
a brief gate to the Plane of Fire, this results in a 3d6 Fireball to all
within a 5' radius, sv vs spell for 1/2. (Note: Characters not proficient
in smoking probably don't want to try this).
As this is my first attempt at detailing a full-fledged personality, I
would like any and all comments. Particularly those about what I can do to
make him more useful to others wanting to use him in a campaign.
