| Feature - The Beast of Malar - Rumors |
Rumours in TownWhat follows is a list of rumors that the characters will hear if they hang around the town and listen in on conversations or talk to people. Next to each rumor it says if that rumor is true or false.1. The Beast is the spirit of the Forest of Cormanthyr and is angry, it feels that the Dales folk have driven the elves from it and has now manifested itself as a beast. It wants to slay all the people in the Dalelands and will not rest until it has done so. (False) 2. The Beast is an ancient evil that has awakened from a sleep of a thousand years and it now wants to grow in power by killing people. (True) 3. The Beast doesn't really exist; the whole thing is a front for a Zhentarim kidnapping scheme. The Zhents are making it look like people are being killed. But they are really just knocking them out and taking them off and selling them in to the slave trade. (False) 4. There are people in the town that are helping the Beast, and they are in turn working for a higher power. (True) 5. The Beast is really an escaped creature from Myth Drannor, he is one of the creatures that came through a gate and is not from this world. He is killing people so that he can gain a route back to his home plane, if he kills enough people he can use their souls to create a dimensional gate. (False) 6. The knights that are meant to protect the town are under the control of a cult the serves the Beast and they also control the lords of the town. (True) 7. The creature is in truth an experimental project that the Zhentarium took on. The creature escaped them and is now running rampant on the lose. The men in cloaks that were recently spotted near the woods are their agents who are trying to retrieve it. (False) 8. The Beast has a hideout in the forest near Ashabenford and this is where it is working from. If you go there during the day the Beast rests and you stand a better chance of defeating it. (True) 9. The Beast is a myth that the people of Shadowdale dreamt up to frighten away our wealth. They then sent their agents here to work their illusions and pretend that the thing is ravaging the town so as to get our trade. (False) 10. The Beast is eating people's hearts out because it grows in power by doing this and if left unchallenged will become all-powerful. (True) |
