Since the last issue of the Forgotten Times events have been overshadowed somewhat by the tragic death of Arylon councilor Jade Williams in England. Jade's death left an empty spot not only with her friends and colleagues within the Arylon project but also with everyone else participating in Realms projects on the Forgotten Realms Projects Mailing List.
Despite this tragedy, project members have begun a number of interesting and exciting things since our last report, ongoing projects have contributed substantial new material and the mailing list itself is undergoing change. Mailing list members have been looking at possible rule changes to broaden the list's base of discussion. The round of discussion over the first set of draft rules - posted in Internet - closed on May 23. As soon as the second draft is available, tentatively in early June, you'll find a menu link to it in the Forgotten Realms Zone at http://www.geocities.com/~frzone or at the mirror site: http://www.crosswinds.net/~frzone.

Arylon City Project
Arylon is a Forgotten Realms city being developed on the Sword Coast by members of the three Internet mailing lists. It's located on the Chionthar River between Baldur's Gate and Elturel. Arylon also is the biggest of the active Realms Projects, and it has grown substantially since our last report. The project now has divided itself into three separate web sites:
The new item here is the FTP download site, which lets you go direct to locations and people of Arylon and download the specific material you're looking for. The FTP site also gives you the three different city and regional maps prepared by project cartographer Erskine Fincher. These maps can be downloaded in the FCW-Format used by Campaign Cartographer 2™ and Campaign Mapper in TSR's Core Rules CD or the universal JPG-Format.
Arylon involves a large number of people. The top two are Judge Timothy Haney (galwylin@AIRNET.NET) and Submissions Officer Jenn Millington (kethry@idirect.ca). The city map is updated regularly and can be downloaded in the current version at http://webhome.idirect.com/~kethry/Arylon. Erskine Fincher's cartography was at the stage below at press time, but you can upload the FCW version or perhaps a newer version at the Arylon FTP site.

FR Creative DMing
FR Creative DMing is a new mailing list for the Forgotten Realms that focuses first and foremost upon DMs and is intended for people interested in exchanging creative ideas for dthe development of campaigns and the FR campaign setting. The list's sole purpose is to explore and flesh out other FR gamers' creative ideas for their FR campaign world. According to list owner J.A. Jones Tyler III, "The results should improve one's enjoyment of FR as well as provide excellent sources of inspiration for all FR gamers. Whether something is "canon" or not, makes absolutely no difference."

Kraken Society
This project is developing the Lovecraftian Kraken Society of the North that is only loosely detailede in TSR's FR5 The Savage Frontier and the boxed set The North. This project actually started in 1998 but was inactive for some time. Project officer Robert Sullivan reactivated it recently and has drawn considerable response on the Forgotten Realms Projects Mailing List. The initial work now is available for download in Internet. The project still is seeking participation from other gamers and DMs.

Mage Schools
The Mage Schools
project is a new entry from veteran Realms-L and Realms-Projects contributor Khamsin, who already has published his ground ideas previously on Realms-L, along with extensive developments of Sossal and redevelopment of the Bloodstone Lands. Mage Schools is a brand new project that still has not established a web site. Contributions and ideas are being sought.

Trade Routes
This new project
intends to delve into all aspects of trade in the Realms. The fun stuff is the actual project, according to submissions officer Jay Breton. We have set down our ground rules for the project, and taken care of the officers. Now we are dividing up Abeir-Toril into sections, and each of us will be developing the basics for that area, i.e. routes, goods traded, etc. Once we get the groundwork for the project decided, we are planning on fleshing out the project. This will probably include different merchant costers, what they trade in, and where they trade to, as well as a number of other potential aspects we have been tossing around.
Our layout editor, JP Hazelhoff, has come up with the idea of making it look similar to an official supplement, starting out with general stuff, followed by trade by areas. Again, this is not official, just what we are thinking of doing. We know we are in for a huge project, but we are all excited about finally starting the fun stuff.
We are looking for anything you think we should add, delete, change, or anything else you can come up with, so here is a chance to have some input. I have a feeling though that from the response this topic has shown in the past, we should get some good feedback.

The Forgotten Realms Projects Mailing List at iMagic (formery MPGN) and the Forgotten Realms Zone in the Internet (http://www.geocities.com/~frzone) are two special online corners of Faerūn for DMs and players who want to develop unofficial gaming material and make it available for others to use, or who simply want use what others are making available.
Realms Projects was born in 1997, the creation of Alistair Lowe-Norris, computer network chief at Leicester University in the United Kingdom. It's been a popular stop for Realms gamers ever since, but one that's still misunderstood more than understood. One of the more frequent themes in the moderator's eMailbox revolves around the contention that a lot of good work is unqualified for the projects list because it's a solo effort. This perception is absolutely false. Individual projects are just as eligible and qualified for the projects list as group efforts.
